Which postpartum pads from the drugstore are best?
There are a number of different pads for the postpartum period in drugstores. These are usually made of conventional quality cotton and are filled with plastic granules to ensure high absorbency. These pads are not suitable for the postpartum period because the plastic granules prevent air circulation in the intimate area and conventional cotton can be contaminated with harmful substances that cause irritation and allergies.
What distinguishes the weeks organic postpartum pads from drugstore products?
1 | The weeks pads are completely plastic-free. This means that they do not have a plastic coating on the back, but are made of 100% organic cotton all around. This is great for the healing of birth injuries because a lot of air can circulate. This also means that fewer germs form in the pad, which can potentially cause uterine infections.
2 | We don't use superabsorbents. Superabsorbents are fine granules that are used in almost all period and postpartum pads and also in diapers. They are made of plastics that can absorb many times their own weight. When superabsorbents come into contact with period blood or lochia, a hydrogel is formed that you can feel as a solid core in the pads and diapers. Because you excrete a lot of lochia, especially in the first few days, a rather solid pad board between your legs would be annoying if you used pads with superabsorbents. We don't think that's cool at all, so we've filled our pads exclusively with 100% organic cotton. Absorbs up to 175ml of lochia per pad and still remains super soft and cuddly, we promise!
3 | We use 100% GOTS-certified organic cotton, inside and out. Unlike most other postpartum pads, the weeks are also covered with cotton on the outside and not with viscose or cellulose. This is particularly soft, very well tolerated and does not irritate your skin and mucous membranes. The organic cotton was grown without fertilizers and pesticides and bleached without chlorine and dioxin. Only the best for you!
